episode seventy-one | stephanie santana

In this episode Miranda speaks with Stephanie Santana is a textile artist, surface designer and fine art printmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work explores archival photographs and documents, layering hand printed images and patterns as a way of understanding lineage and the spaces between memory, imagination and the physical evidence of Black life. We’ll talk about her finding art through myspace, taking up printmaking through illustration gigs, historical textile traditions carrying religious and ancestral meaning, creating archives with old family photos, and how becoming a mother affected her practice and the way she sees the passage of time.
